Day Tripping: Chattanooga, TN

May 15, 2018
This post has been a long time coming, but our schedule has been crazy lately. From planning bigger trips to new jobs, a lot of things have been changing around here. I can't wait to start (and share) this upcoming chapter of our lives. It's a month and a half later and I'm just getting around to telling you guys about our new favorite city: Chattanooga, Tennessee.

It's no secret that Andrew and I love day tripping. Most weeks we get two consecutive days off together, which allows us to both have fun and relax before heading back to work. Like our Birmingham trips that I talk about here, we've started venturing further out. While I love discovering new places we haven't been to yet, one has stood out: Chattanooga. I don't recall our reasoning for visiting the first time we did, but from the moment we drove into the city, I knew a day wouldn't be long enough. We had a list of recommendations from our friends, and we knew we wanted to hit them all up. I don't think we were in the city five minutes before looking at each other and silently affirming we'd be back the following week.

We deliberately didn't try to visit every place recommended to us on our first day. We wanted to soak up as much as we could of every experience and location. From dining along the Tennessee river, to watching fireworks from a gritty second story bar, we knew we'd never run out of things to do.

Posing like a fashion blogger or trying to decipher directions?

"For every brewery you get, I get a thrift store." That's our rule of thumb when exploring a city. He loves discovering new brews and I love vintage anything. While he researches the breweries he's wanting to visit in a particular city, I google "thrift store" and go from there. It's a hit and miss at times, but when I do score, I take pride in knowing it's (mostly) one of a kind.

We've fallen so in love with this city, we started making weekly trips on our days off. The city blends both our personalities and interests so finely, we feel right at home. The drive time and time zone hop go unnoticed as we speed toward everything we didn't get a chance to do last week.
